VALVE SURGERY

Heart valve surgery is a procedure used to repair or replace diseased heart valves.
Sanger’s innovative yet minimally invasive approaches to heart valve and heart valve repair surgeries reduce recovery time and overall patient trauma. Our integrated team treats wide-ranging valvular conditions such as the narrowing of valves known as stenosis, congenital valve defects present at birth and additional prominent valvular issues.

The diagnostic tests your heart doctor orders help to identify the location, type and extent of your valve disease. The results of these tests, the structure of your heart, your age, and your lifestyle will help your cardiologist, surgeon, and YOU decide what type of heart valve surgery procedure will be best for you.
The cardiac surgery program at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute offers a full complement of surgical interventions from conventional to minimally invasive approaches.

CONVENTIONAL HEART SURGERY:
During traditional heart surgery, (1) a surgeon will make an incision down the center of your chest (breastbone) to get direct access to your heart. (2) The surgery is then performed while the patient is on the heart-lung machine and (3) the heart is not moving.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE HEART SURGERY:
Minimally invasive surgery is a type of surgery performed which does not require some of the (3) components listed above. This type of surgery can reduce blood loss, trauma and length of hospital stay.

OFF PUMP SURGERY:
Beating heart surgery that allows the surgeon to perform bypass surgery without putting the patient on a heart-lung machine and stopping the heart.
