Beat canola oil with water. Pour over mixture of whole wheat flour and salt. Stir quickly with fork, then knead into a ball. Roll out and place in pie pan. Fill with mixture of sliced apples, brown sugar, 3 TBSP flour, cinnamon and nutmeg or cloves. Repeat steps for crust to use for top crust. Prick vent holes in top of pie with fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-60 minutes or until juice begins to bubble from pie.
Serves 8.
Tip: The drier and crumblier the dough, the flakier the crust will be. Don't make it pretty; broken pieces are okay, they can be pressed together. For a more shapeable dough, add slightly more liquid. |
