Community Involvement

Information and knowledge are two of our strongest weapons in controlling the threat of heart disease. Participation in local health fairs and screening events can provide you with insight into your health status, the services available in your area and particular challenges or areas of interest. Heart Walks and other community programs are great opportunities to get involved and learn more about the risks and effects of heart disease.

Health Fairs

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute participates at a variety of health fairs in the communities we serve. Our physicians also speak at conferences and seminars throughout the state, as well as regular features on the WTVI Healthwise program.

Heart of a Champion Day

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute has joined with Levine Children's Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to organize and operate Heart of a Champion Day, which is a free athletic screening event. The mission for this day is to provide the highest quality, comprehensive sports health screening and education to the student-athletes of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools so they may compete safely and injury free in the upcoming school year.

The screening is completely FREE and is designed to detect any conditions that may increase a student's risk of injury or death while practicing or competing in his/her sport. Click here for additional information.

Grassroots Movement

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is taking a leadership role in the national grassroots movement to create healthier communities. Healthy Families, Healthy Communities is a collaborative effort of more than forty-five neighborhoods and twenty-five agencies to help improve the physical and mental health of underserved communities. In Charlotte, we have partnered with Carolinas Medical Center, Biddle Point Community Health Center, Mecklenburg County Health Department, local churches, and neighborhood residents in the Healthy Communities initiative. Working collaboratively, these groups provide information and screening opportunities to those without ready access to the health care system and then open medical channels for both initial and follow-up care.
